چکیده

Many immersive displays developed in previous researches are strongly influenced by the design concept of the CAVE, which is the origin of the immersive displays. In the view of human-scale interactive system for virtual environment (VE), the existing immersive systems are not enough to use the potential of a human sense further extent. The displays require more complicated structure for flexible extension, and are more restrictive to user’s movement. Therefore we propose a novel multiprojector display for immersive VE with haptic interface for more flexible and dynamic interaction. The display part of our system named “D-vision” has a hybrid curved screen which consist of compound prototype with flat and curve screen. This renders images seamlessly in real time, and generates high-quality stereovision by PC cluster and two-pass technology. Furthermore a human-scale string-based haptic device will integrate with the D-vision for more interactive and immersive VE. In this paper, we show an overview of the D-vision and technologies used for the human-scale haptic interface. key words: immersive projection technology, human-scale virtual environment, multi-modal interaction, force feedback

Multi-Projector Imagery on Curved Surfaces

Curved screens are increasingly being used for high-resolution immersive visualization environments. We describe a new technique to display seamless images using overlapping projectors on curved quadric surfaces such as spherical or cylindrical shape. We define a new quadric image transfer function and show how it can be used to achieve sub-pixel registration while interactively displaying two ...

Immersive Integration for Virtual and Human-Centered Environments

e envision future work and play environments that are more effectively human-centered with the user’s computing interface being more closely integrated with the physical surroundings than today’s conventional computer display screens and keyboards. We are working toward realizable versions of such environments, in which multiple video projectors and digital cameras enable every visible surface ...

Experiences with Scalability of Display Wall

Immersive virtual environments require large-scale high resolution displays to match the human visual acuity. This drives the need to study scalability issues related to display wall systems. This paper reports our experiences in scaling up the display wall system at Princeton University from 8 to 24 projectors. We discuss scalability techniques for automatic projector calibration, cluster mana...

OmniMap: Projective Perspective Mapping API for Non-planar Immersive Display Surfaces

Typical video projection systems display rectangular images on flat screens. Optical and perspective correction techniques must be employed to produce undistorted output on non-planar display surfaces. A two-pass algorithm, called projective perspective mapping, is a solution well suited for use with commodity graphics hardware. This algorithm is implemented in the OmniMap API providing an exte...

An Immersive Granular Material Visualization System with Haptic Feedback

Recent advances in distributed virtual reality systems and haptic technologies provide new opportunities to augment human sense of touch into highly complex and immersive visual simulations. Haptic feedback further enhances human immersion into virtual environments. We present techniques for portable and distributed rendering of real-time active and passive stereo views of virtual granular mate...
